Long counter around an open kitchen on the second floor of Roppongi Hills Hillside
L'ATELIER de Joel Robuchon is on the second floor of Roppongi Hills Hillside at 6-10-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku. It opened in April 2003 and holds one MICHELIN star in the MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2026. The format follows the idea of convivialite that Robuchon championed: a long counter wrapped around an open kitchen, where guests talk freely with the chefs and service staff as each plate is finished in front of them.
The room is dressed in red and black. Counter seats face the kitchen line, and table seating is also available on request.
The kitchen serves courses and an extensive a la carte of small tasting portions that can be combined freely. The Menu Decouverte gathers Robuchon specialities, opening with the famous imperial caviar in lobster jelly under a smooth cauliflower cream, then crispy langoustine in a basil papillote, black cod with yuzu-scented daikon, and wagyu rib eye with Robuchon's mashed potatoes, ending on an Araguani chocolate signature. The a la carte adds Atelier-style spaghetti with sea urchin and a soft-poached egg, roasted Kyoto duck with herb salad, and rib eye sliced to order with the same mashed potatoes.
Lunch is served daily from 12:00 with last entry at 13:30, and dinner from 18:00 with last entry at 19:30. Counter seats can be booked up to two months ahead, and same-day seats are sometimes available.
