Modern French cooking on the 24th floor of The Peninsula Tokyo, facing the Imperial Palace gardens
Peter is the modern French restaurant on the 24th floor of The Peninsula Tokyo in Yurakucho, the hotel opposite the Imperial Palace. The hotel frames the menu as a journey through the regions of Japan, with local seafood and in-season produce, from Hokkaido scallops to Iwate vegetables, handled with French technique.
Windows look across the Imperial Palace outer gardens and Hibiya Park by day and the city skyline after dark, and the room keeps its own bar, Peter: The Bar, where head mixologist Mari Kamata builds cocktails around ingredients such as Shikoku yuzu, Nagano wasabi and Kyushu shochu. Music and live performances set the tempo in the evening. The Nest, a private dining room for up to 12, looks toward Tokyo International Forum, Tokyo Station and Tokyo Skytree.
Senior chef de cuisine Yohan Da Costa, a French chef whose career runs through Michelin-starred kitchens in France and senior posts in Japan and Australia, writes the menus. Dinner is served as three tasting menus: Depart at six courses, and Voyage and Destination at seven. Destination opens with Hokkaido zuwai crab in four expressions before Hakodate cod with Aquitaine caviar and Brittany veal cured kobujime-style, and a truffled Kobe Camembert course and desserts such as the Hokkaido Milk Sando close the meal.
Lunch runs 11:30 to 14:00 daily, last order 13:45, and dinner 17:30 to 22:00, last order 21:00. Window tables are guaranteed with the Voyage and Destination anniversary dinner plans.
Address: The Peninsula Tokyo 24F, 1-8-1 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0006, Tokyo
