Cocktail bar high above Nihonbashi in Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, with a New York-inspired signature list
Mandarin Bar is the cocktail bar of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, set high above Nihonbashi inside Nihombashi Mitsui Tower. The drinks list takes its cues from the neighborhood, the old starting point of the five great roads out of Edo, and from New York, with a signature menu titled Manhattan Through a Tokyo Lens.
The room is an indoor bar in a modern Japanese style, designed by Ryu Kosaka with textile accents by Reiko Sudo in warm, earthy tones. A central counter anchors the space, and sofas line the windows for the night view over the city. A spiral staircase leads down from the bar to The Cellar, the hotel's private dining room set inside a wine cellar.
Signatures include Tokyo Central Park, built on Codigo Blanco tequila, sherry, passion fruit, coconut and matcha; the Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo Martini with Belvedere vodka and the hotel's own blend of tea; and the Wagashi Fashioned, a rye cocktail with anko red bean, bamboo and gyokuro. The Sakura Negroni uses Dassai sake and yuzu, The Nihonbashi pairs Roku gin with yuzu, and the low-alcohol Umami Spritzer is made with bonito dashi from Ninben. Since 2022 the bar has also poured a series of single-cask whiskies bottled for the hotel.
The bar opens at 3pm daily and stays open until midnight Sunday to Thursday and until 1am on Friday and Saturday. The dress code is smart casual, with no baseball caps, sleeveless tops, casual sandals or flip-flops, and children under 12 are welcome until 8pm.
