Tucked off Sukhumvit on Soi 45, Sing Sing Theater is the most photographed club interior in Bangkok - the work of designer Ashley Sutton, the mind behind the Iron Fairies, who conjured a Hollywood fantasy of 1930s Shanghai across three floors and four split levels. It is a nightlife landmark as much as a club, a place people come to see before they come to dance.
Red lanterns hang in clusters, elaborate metal screens filter the light, and a mezzanine level with its own bars and an overhanging balcony orbit a central dance floor. The design compresses the crowd inward, so the room feels charged even on a moderate night, all shadow, brass and lantern-glow.
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday lean house and melodic house, with touring international and local artists on the booth; Tuesday and Thursday shift to hip-hop and open format. Either way it draws a stylish, dressed-up crowd. VIP balcony boxes look down over the floor, and a VVIP third floor with its own bar and smoking room rewards those in the know.
It is closed Sunday and Monday, and the door runs 20-plus with ID, so bring a passport or Thai national ID. Go late - the room only really ignites once the boxes fill and the floor tightens - and dress for a scene that treats the interior as a stage.
