NAWA holds a Michelin star for its hyper-modern take on central Thai cooking
NAWA holds a Michelin star for its hyper-modern take on central Thai cooking, led by chefs Napol 'Joe' Jantraget and Saki Hoshino at Parklane on Sukhumvit 61, near Ekkamai. The name means innovation, and it fits - Joe is regarded as one of the pioneers of New Thai Cuisine, while Saki brings the precision and delicacy of her Japanese training. Michelin awarded both a star and Opening of the Year within the restaurant's first nine months.
The pairing of those two sensibilities defines the room: bold, rooted Thai flavor executed with Japanese exactness. It is a contemporary, confident space built for a seasonal tasting menu that changes twice a year, moving through finger food and small bites before reworked main courses.
The current tasting menu shows the range. Ma Hor arrives with fermented pineapple; a Phetchaburi oyster omelette comes with egg foam and sago; and grilled river prawn is finished with a prawn tomalley relish. Each dish is recognizably Thai but reassembled with modern intent.
It is a room for diners who want to see where Thai cooking is heading next. Book ahead for the tasting menu, and time a visit to catch a seasonal changeover if you want the kitchen at its most current.
