Perched on the 64th floor of lebua at State Tower, Alfresco 64 sits some 800 feet above Bang Rak and bills itself as the world's highest outdoor whisky bar. It is the quieter, more refined counterpart to the famous Sky Bar next door, part of the hotel's celebrated collection of rooftop venues known as The Dome.
The design takes its cue from a luxury yacht: a sleek indoor cabin lounge opens onto an alfresco prow that juts out over the edge of the tower, laid with teak floors and comfortable couches. A glass railing runs along the rim, framing an uninterrupted sweep of the Chao Phraya River and the city lights beyond - one of the most commanding vantage points in Bangkok.
True to its name, this is a bar for whisky lovers, with a menu that gathers craftsmanship from Scotland, Japan, Taiwan and America alongside rare pours and creative whisky-based cocktails. Staff guide tastings and flights, and the kitchen sends out small plates designed to pair with the drams.
