Mount St. Restaurant is the art-filled dining room on the first floor of The Audley, a restored Mayfair landmark reopened by gallerists Iwan and Manuela Wirth of Hauser and Wirth. More than 200 works hang throughout the building, from Andy Warhol and Lucian Freud to a mosaic floor by Rashid Johnson, a working gallery you can book a table inside.
The room sits on the corner of Mount Street and Audley Street, over leather-topped tables built to age well. The crowd is Mayfair through and through: art-world regulars, locals, and visitors who came for the collection as much as the food.
Executive chef Jamie Shears cooks modern British with an emphasis on seasonal produce, much of it from the Wirths' own Durslade Farm in Somerset. The signature is a lobster pie for two that regulars order without looking at the rest of the card. Beyond it: omelette Arnold Bennett, Bruton beef tartare, Dover sole with brown butter hollandaise, and a beef Wellington for two that needs roughly fifty minutes, so order it early. Mount St. is listed in the Michelin Guide as a recommended restaurant, with no star.
