Papi Steak is the high-energy steakhouse of South of Fifth, at 736 1st Street in Miami Beach, built for celebration tables and groups who want theater with their steak. The house describes it as fine dining colliding with the thrill of celebration, and the room plays it that way.
The room reopened after a full Rockwell Group redesign, and it reads pure Miami glamour: deep red velvet banquettes, resin-topped tables, a statement chandelier, and metallic floral wallcoverings. The main dining room seats 100, with private dining for celebrations and a bar for cocktails before the reservation.
The menu is built on theater and premium beef. The signature is The Papi Steak, a 32-ounce Glatt Kosher tomahawk brushed with the house secret sauce, and the room is known for The Beef Case, a 55-ounce Australian Wagyu tomahawk and one of its signature tomahawk presentations. A Wagyu sampler brings 2-ounce cuts of A5 Miyazaki, Hokkaido Snow, Olive-Fed Wagyu and Sheer Farm, with Wagyu pastrami, truffle corn and crispy lobster mac and cheese for the table.
The crowd is dressed up and celebratory, and the dress code is upscale casual: no hats, tank tops, flip-flops, shorts, athletic team apparel or beachwear, and that includes children. Dinner starts at 6 PM every night.
