American Cut is an art-deco steakhouse in Tribeca, open since 2013 and built for a proper steak dinner with downtown swagger. It suits anniversaries, deal closings, and birthdays that deserve a tomahawk and a bottle of something serious. The dining room makes the case on looks alone, with art deco lamps, leather booths and a moody, polished glow.
For a private dinner, the Black Room sits just off the main dining room around a custom round table for 17, and the lower-level Morrison Room has its own bar and seats 55. The house asks guests to dress with style, so plan to arrive polished: no athletic wear, beachwear, shorts, hoodies or flip-flops.
Two dishes define the menu. The pastrami ribeye is the signature, a 20-ounce dry-aged steak served with whole grain mustard, and the chili lobster comes with Texas toast to sweep the plate. Around those, the kitchen runs a full modern steakhouse menu: a 40-ounce tomahawk chop flambeed tableside, a 40-ounce porterhouse and a bone-in rib eye, both dry-aged, Japanese A5 Miyazaki wagyu, and a raw bar of oysters and seafood towers. The bar answers with plank-smoked old fashioneds and a blue cheese martini.
The room serves dinner only: Tuesday through Thursday 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, closed Sunday and Monday. Happy hour runs at the bar from 5 to 7 PM.
