Jean-Georges is the flagship of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's kitchen, set inside Trump International Hotel & Tower at 1 Central Park West, where floor-to-ceiling windows look out on Central Park and Columbus Circle. It opened in 1997 and holds two Michelin stars in the current guide.
Thomas Juul-Hansen redesigned the dining room, with lighting by L'Observatoire. The cooking is French technique threaded with American and Asian accents, and the local farmers market drives a seasonal menu that keeps changing.
Chef de cuisine Joseph Rhee runs the kitchen through six- and ten-course omnivore tastings, a six-course vegetarian tasting, and a 1997 Classics menu devoted to the early years. That menu holds the egg caviar with vodka whipped cream, the tuna ribbons with avocado, radish, ginger dressing and chili oil, the scallops with caramelized cauliflower and a caper-raisin emulsion, and the warm chocolate cake with Madagascar vanilla ice cream. Lunch offers a three-course menu and a six-course tasting.
Lunch is served Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and dinner Tuesday through Saturday 4:45 PM to 9:30 PM; closed Sunday and Monday. Gentlemen are encouraged to wear a jacket, ties are not required, and jeans, sweatshirts and sneakers are not allowed. Children above 10 are welcome.
