Scarpetta on Madison Avenue is the New York flagship, inside the Hotel Seville NoMad at 88 Madison Avenue. The restaurant opened in 2008 on 14th Street in the Meatpacking District and moved here in 2018, and the spaghetti with tomato and basil, the dish it is famous for, came with it.
The name comes from the Italian expression fare la scarpetta, to savor a meal to the very last bite. The kitchen builds bold flavors from seasonal ingredients, and every pasta is handmade in-house daily. Beyond the spaghetti, look for the agnolotti with short rib, bone marrow and horseradish, the duck and foie gras ravioli with marsala, and the Muscovy duck, with a Dover sole and a Milanese veal chop to share at the table. The Seville, a speakeasy lounge in the same hotel, suits a drink after dinner.
It takes lunch as seriously as dinner, with a la carte and prix fixe menus served Monday to Friday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Dinner runs every night from 5:00 PM.
Sunday and Monday dinner ends at 9:00 PM and Tuesday through Thursday at 9:30 PM, so a late table needs a Friday or Saturday, when the dining room serves until 10:00 PM.
