Chef Travis Swikard's Michelin Bib Gourmand Mediterranean in East Village
Callie is the kind of room we send guests to when they want Mediterranean cooking with a serious pedigree behind it but none of the stiffness. Chef Travis Swikard grew up in the San Diego area, then spent close to a decade in New York as the right hand to Daniel Boulud, falling for the sun-drenched flavors of Greece, Spain, Italy, Morocco and the wider Mediterranean coast while running the kitchen at Boulud Sud. Callie, opened in 2021 in East Village, is his first solo restaurant, and it brings that whole palette home to the farmers, fishermen and produce of greater San Diego. The name comes from the Greek kallos, meaning a thing of beauty, and the cooking lives up to it.
