Michelin Bib Gourmand Italian trattoria with an open-air pasta factory in Point Loma
Cesarina is a neighborhood Italian trattoria at 4161 Voltaire Street in Point Loma, opened in February 2019 and named for chef Cesarina Mezzoni, who leads its kitchen. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2026 guide, the inspectors' mark for good cooking at a fair price, and the room is convivial and unfussy, with bistro tables and custom booths inside and two dog-friendly garden patios.
The heart of the restaurant is the open-air pastificio, a working pasta factory where guests can watch the dough being made and the pastries shaped. Pasta is made fresh every day, and the format is mix-and-match: choose your shape, from rigatoni and paccheri to mafalde and gnocchi, then choose your sauce, from a fresh pomodoro with burrata to the Tartufona of mascarpone and truffle or the Arrabbiatissima with Calabrian nduja.
The Paccheri Vodka e Scampi goes richer, pairing a vodka and scampi cream with peperoncino, shrimp and a whole wild-caught langoustine. Before the pasta, order the Polpo Croccante, honey-glazed crispy octopus with romesco and cacio e pepe potatoes, or the Carpaccio Cesarina with espresso-rubbed tenderloin and truffle sauce, and the Mozzarella Milanese, deep-fried breaded mozzarella with hot honey, done as a comfort dish without being careless.
The meal closes with a tableside dessert program. The tiramisu is built from housemade ladyfingers, espresso and mascarpone cream, and it is worth budgeting time for at the end of the night.
