Teppanyaki at a 24-seat counter inside the Japanese garden of Hotel New Otani Tokyo
Sekishin-tei is the teppanyaki restaurant of Hotel New Otani Tokyo, set inside the hotel's 400-year-old Japanese garden in Kioicho. Top-grade wagyu and seafood are cooked on the iron grill by the restaurant's chefs directly in front of each guest, and every course is built around that live cooking.
All 24 seats are at the counter, facing the grills and the chefs. To reach the restaurant, guests walk out from the hotel buildings into the garden. When the main course is done, the party moves for dessert to Shogetsu-tei, the restaurant's quiet annex, so the meal closes in a calmer room.
Dinner runs through named courses. Benkei pairs scallop and lobster tail with a wagyu sirloin; Kioi moves through pepper-seared bluefin tuna and grilled spiny lobster to a wagyu filet; Takumi opens with caviar and foie gras, then salt-crusted abalone, seared beef sushi and a wagyu chateaubriand. Kobe beef loin from Kawagishi Ranch can replace the main, and the rice course offers garlic rice or the house modanyaki, an okonomiyaki with noodles and wagyu. Dessert includes a gelato made with Jersey milk from Hachijo Island.
Lunch is served Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30am, with last orders at 1:30pm. Dinner starts at 5pm, with last orders at 8:30pm Tuesday to Saturday, and runs in two seatings at 5pm and 7pm on Sundays and holidays. Seats are held for 90 minutes at lunch and two hours at dinner.
