Contemporary Mexican on three oceanfront levels at Chileno Bay Resort
Comal is the oceanfront restaurant and bar at Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, set in a contemporary indoor-outdoor space spread across three levels. The tables look out over the Sea of Cortez, which sets the tone for a menu built firmly on its Baja surroundings.
The cooking is contemporary Mexican that travels across the country's regions, with South American influences threaded through and a focus on the local ingredients and traditions of Baja.
A standout is the Octopus Kastakan, octopus tossed with crispy pork belly chicharron and cilantro. From there the kitchen ranges from a live-action raw bar of ceviche and crudo to charred blue shrimp with peanut and sesame macha, Costeno-style red snapper with pineapple and chilhuacle adobo, and slow-cooked Wagyu barbacoa. Candles line one wall, and it gets romantic after dark.
Comal also serves breakfast from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the bar opens at 5:00 PM with an aperitivo hour until 7:00 PM. Recommended by the Michelin Guide, Comal serves dinner nightly from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM. For dinner for two, request one of the tables closest to the water for unobstructed sea views.
