Izu Ani's coastal Greek table in Gate Village, DIFC.
GAIA is Chef Izu Ani's love letter to the Greek and wider Mediterranean table, set in Gate Village at DIFC. Since opening in 2018 it has stayed one of the hardest tables in the district, equal parts restaurant and all-day social room, and it is distinct from the group's beach-side Sirene by GAIA further along the coast.
The space is bright and quietly luxurious, done in pale stone, warm wood and greenery, with a long central bar and a terrace that fills as the evening cools. It reads more Aegean villa than city dining room, which is exactly the intent, and it carries an easy hum from lunch straight through to a late dinner.
The menu runs coastal Greek and Mediterranean: raw fish and crudo, warm bread with a spread of dips, grilled octopus, pasta, and whole fish brought out and filleted for the table. Portions are built to share across a group, and the wine list leans Greek, Italian and Mediterranean before it travels further afield.
The crowd is DIFC at its most polished, from long lunches that drift into the afternoon to a busy, dressed-up dinner service. Reserve well ahead for weekends, ask about the terrace when the weather turns, and plan for a table you will not want to give up early. Service splits neatly between a leisurely lunch and a dressed, later dinner, and the room holds its polish through both.
