The Modern
Description
Why we recommend The Modern in New York
The Modern is one of the New York restaurants we point guests toward when they ask what to eat the night before (or the night after) a reservation with us. Michelin or James Beard-recognized Manhattan dining destination — and the room is worth a dedicated evening, not a squeezed-in pre-club pit stop. This page is a city-guide write-up: what the restaurant is known for, what to order, when to go, what to expect in the room, and the direct route to book. MyRSVP’s concierge service in New York specializes in nightclub and pool-club bookings rather than restaurants, so dining reservations here run through the venue itself.
What to expect in the room and on the menu
The Modern sits comfortably on most short lists of where to eat in New York. The draw is usually a combination of chef provenance, room design, and a signature plate or two that regulars order by name — the dishes that define the restaurant rather than decorate the menu. Michelin or James Beard-recognized Manhattan dining destination. The practical things that matter when you book — whether the tasting menu is the right call for your group, whether to sit at the bar or commit to the dining room, how the wine list is structured relative to the food — are the questions to raise with the reservations team rather than figure out on the night. Most rooms at this level will guide you if you ask.
Reservations — how to book The Modern
A quick note on how to use this page: The Modern sits on our curated New York dining shortlist, but MyRSVP doesn’t hold restaurant inventory here — that concierge service is Las Vegas-only. For the reservation, book direct with the venue on whichever channel they use (their own site, OpenTable, Resy, SevenRooms, or phone). For a nightclub, pool day, or beach club layered into the same New York trip, that is the part where MyRSVP picks up — submit the form on the relevant venue page and we will coordinate that side of the evening with your dinner reservation as the anchor point.
Hours, dress, and planning windows
What to know before you visit The Modern. The room operates on these hours: Monday–Thursday 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Friday–Saturday 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Sunday 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. On the dress side: Business casual recommended; Dining Room leans toward jackets for men and dresses or sophisticated separates for women. Bar Room slightly more relaxed but no shorts or flip-flops. Peak demand in New York falls around September–June for dining; June–September for rooftop season, sharpest on Fashion Week (February and September), UN General Assembly week — those are the dates the reservation book closes furthest out. If the main dining room is full on your target date, ask the restaurant about chef’s counter, bar seats or a tasting-menu slot; those formats often stay open days after the primary book has gone.
