Water Grill
Description
Why we recommend Water Grill in San Diego
Water Grill is one of the San Diego restaurants we point guests toward when they ask what to eat the night before (or the night after) a reservation with us. Gaslamp, La Jolla or Little Italy dining destination — and the room is worth a dedicated evening, not a squeezed-in pre-club pit stop. This page is a city-guide write-up: what the restaurant is known for, what to order, when to go, what to expect in the room, and the direct route to book. MyRSVP’s concierge service in San Diego specializes in nightclub and pool-club bookings rather than restaurants, so dining reservations here run through the venue itself.
What to expect in the room and on the menu
Water Grill opened in 2015 as part of the King’s Seafood Company portfolio, claiming prime real estate at 615 J Street in the Gaslamp Quarter—steps from Petco Park and the Convention Center. The two-story space runs on a daily-changing menu anchored by a live saltwater tank and signature dishes: Black Cod Marinated in Miso, Wild California Spiny Lobster, and Dungeness Crab with crab butter. The Honeymoon Oyster, a tiny-plate starter with precise garnishes, earned recognition from The Wall Street Journal. Vaulted wood ceilings and a chic interior set the tone, while a patio overlooks the Gaslamp’s street energy. The kitchen sources through an exclusive distribution network, so freshness is non-negotiable—you’ll taste the difference. Service moves at dinner pace (11:30 AM–11 PM weekends), and the crowd skews polished but unpretentious. Private dining rooms handle group celebrations. The Chocolate Pot de Crème closes most meals decisively.
Reservations — how to book Water Grill
A quick note on how to use this page: Water Grill sits on our curated San Diego dining shortlist, but MyRSVP doesn’t hold restaurant inventory here — that concierge service is Las Vegas-only. For the reservation, book direct with the venue on whichever channel they use (their own site, OpenTable, Resy, SevenRooms, or phone). For a nightclub, pool day, or beach club layered into the same San Diego trip, that is the part where MyRSVP picks up — submit the form on the relevant venue page and we will coordinate that side of the evening with your dinner reservation as the anchor point.
Hours, dress, and planning windows
What to know before you visit Water Grill. The room operates on these hours: Sunday–Thursday 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday–Saturday 11:30 AM – 11:00 PM. On the dress side: Smart casual. Peak demand in San Diego falls around year-round, peaking on Comic-Con (July) and the summer Coronado season, sharpest on Comic-Con International, Del Mar racing season — those are the dates the reservation book closes furthest out. If the main dining room is full on your target date, ask the restaurant about chef’s counter, bar seats or a tasting-menu slot; those formats often stay open days after the primary book has gone.
How MyRSVP helps with the rest of your San Diego trip
Booking Water Grill for your San Diego trip.
