Kioicho Fukudaya · Restaurant · Tokyo

A ryotei founded in 1939 around the aesthetics of Kitaoji Rosanjin, serving kaiseki in four private rooms.
Kioicho Fukudaya is a ryotei in Kioicho, Chiyoda, serving kaiseki in private tatami rooms, and it holds two MICHELIN stars in the MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2026. It opened in Toranomon in 1939 as an inn and restaurant shaped by the potter and gastronome Kitaoji Rosanjin, and its guests included Rosanjin, Yasunari Kawabata and Isamu Noguchi.
After the 1945 air raids it moved to Kioicho, reopening in 1946. There are four rooms. On the ground floor, Botan and Sakura have sunken horigotatsu seating for four and eight; upstairs, Suisen seats four and Kotobuki, at 28 tatami mats, seats up to 16 at tables. Screens, scrolls and Rosanjin's own tableware dress the rooms, and shoes come off at the entrance.
The cooking follows Rosanjin's view that tableware is the clothing of the food. Head chef Shunichi Matsushita builds the courses on the house dashi, and the kaiseki follows the calendar through the plate, the vessel and the decoration of the room. Courses built around wagyu or seasonal luxuries such as crab, fugu and matsutake can be requested when booking.
Dinner guests arrive between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, Monday to Friday, and lunch is currently served on Thursdays and Fridays, with arrival between 11:30am and 1pm. Saturday dinner is for groups of ten or more. The rooms suit family introductions, anniversaries and formal entertaining.
