The Brooklyn steakhouse's Tokyo branch, in a three-floor brick building beside Ebisu Garden Place
Peter Luger Steak House Tokyo is the Tokyo branch of the Brooklyn steakhouse founded in 1887, in its own brick-fronted building beside Ebisu Garden Place in Ebisu. The aim is steak with the same taste and quality as the Brooklyn original: USDA Prime beef chosen to the owning family's standards, flown in weekly and dry-aged in house for at least 28 days.
The building is laid out like a theater over three floors. The ground floor holds the bar, a boutique and four private rooms for eight that join to seat 32. The second floor is the main dining room, with a ceiling about six meters high and an open kitchen, and the third floor looks down over it like balcony seating. Each upper floor also has a private room for ten, and the beef ages in a dedicated room downstairs.
The signature is the T-bone, sirloin and filet on one bone, served as a steak for two, three or four. It is broiled at high heat and finished on a sizzling plate with butter. Around it sit the classics: Luger's sizzling extra-thick bacon by the slice, creamed spinach, Luger's special German fried potatoes and the Holy Cow hot fudge sundae with homemade schlag. The Luger burger, made from the same aged beef, is a lunch dish in the dining room and is served all day at the bar, where the Peter Luger Bloody Mary leads a cocktail hour from 17:00 to 19:00.
Lunch runs 11:00 to 15:00, last order 14:00, and dinner 17:00 to 23:00, last order 21:30, every day outside the New Year break. Tables open for booking 60 days ahead.
