NAO Restaurante Mediterraneo is a Michelin Guide Recommended kitchen in the historic downtown of San Jose del Cabo, on the corner of Miguel Hidalgo and Manuel Doblado. Local chef Alex Branch works a Mediterranean, Persian, and Middle Eastern proposal, reworked with Baja California ingredients and techniques.
Branch is a Los Cabos veteran. He started in Mexico City under chef Monica Patino, helped open the Capella Pedregal resort that is now the Waldorf Astoria, cooked at Manta by Enrique Olvera, and was executive sous chef at One and Only Palmilla. Arturo Sacramento, who met Branch on the opening of Herringbone, is head chef.
Nearly everything arrives made in house, from the bread and pasta to the gelato. At dinner that means tortellini cacio e pepe with blue shrimp, yellow corn and tobiko, a Beirut hummus with confit garlic and toasted pine nuts, a braised short rib over saffron rice, and a yogurt gelato finished with macerated strawberries and baklava crumble.
The room is dressed in whitewashed brick with blue accents. Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and dinner from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a Sunday brunch from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The restaurant holds a reservation for up to 15 minutes, so plan to arrive with the whole party.
