Nobu on Old Park Lane is the original, the first Nobu in Europe, open on the first floor of the COMO Metropolitan hotel since 1997. It is a scene in its own right, with a nightly mix of business tables, celebration parties, and regulars who have been coming for years.
The restaurant sits one floor up in the Metropolitan, a large, light space in pale woods and natural stone, with full-height windows running the Park Lane side toward Hyde Park. Black leather banquettes line the window wall, blond wooden tables fill a bright, pared-back room, and a separate sushi counter lets you sit in front of the chefs.
This is where Nobu-style Japanese-Peruvian cooking was introduced to London, so the signatures are the point. Black Cod Miso, a fillet marinated for days in sweet den miso and then broiled, is the dish the kitchen is known for worldwide. Yellowtail Jalapeno layers thin slices of fish with garlic, chili, and a citrus soy that has been imitated everywhere since, and Rock Shrimp Tempura in a creamy spicy sauce is the crowd-pleaser. Ask about the omakase and the lunch and brunch tasting formats if you want the kitchen to lead.
Lunch runs from noon and dinner from 6pm to 10pm daily, with Saturday adding a brunch sitting from noon to 3pm. The book opens up to two calendar months ahead, and prime Friday and Saturday tables go quickest. If your evening is full, the sushi counter, lunch, and Saturday brunch often hold availability after the main dinner book has closed.
