Nobu Miami sits inside Nobu Hotel Miami Beach on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach, just steps from the sand, on the same oceanfront property as Eden Roc Miami Beach. The dining room serves evenings only, while the hotel's Lobby Bar and Lounge keeps going from lunch into the night.
The dining room is airy and contemporary, with gold cherry blossom decor, traditional hanging lanterns, a washi paper installation floating above teak tables, and a sushi bar. Beyond the main room there is a semi-private room set off by custom cherry blossom panels and sheer curtains, a Private Chef's Room where a teppan or sushi chef cooks a multi-course menu, and an enclosed patio with its own bar, so a group of eight and a group of forty are both accommodated without either taking over the restaurant.
The cooking is the canon Nobu Matsuhisa built: black cod marinated in miso, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, rock shrimp tempura in a creamy spicy sauce. The kitchen's own advice for a first visit is two or three cold dishes, then two or three hot ones, then sushi and dessert, all shared. The Lobby Bar currently runs an oyster bar with an osetra caviar pairing, and works as a first drink before the table or a last one after it.
Dinner runs from 6pm to 9:45pm Sunday through Thursday and to 10:45pm on Friday and Saturday. The sushi bar and the bar and lounge seats are open to walk-ins, and when the book is full the restaurant suggests setting an alert on the OpenTable app.
